The battle at Gettysburg was the turning point for the Union. Around 11,000 died, while 40,000 soldiers were wounded. This adds up to 51,000 people, about 20 times the amount of people in Gettysburg. In total, nearly 2 percent of all Americans got killed due to the battle.
