This is an engraving of the 54th regiment in the civil war. This was the first African American regiment in the united states army. When they learned that they were being paid less than the white regiments, they decided to become a volunteer regiment. Their bravery in the war shows that the place someone comes from has nothing to do with their ability to succeed.
