Otto Litienthal created a hang glider design that was inventive and successful. It had broad wings that folded easily for storage. It could be controlled by the flyer shifting his weight back and forth, moving the glider's center of gravity. It could go up to 1150 feet in the air. Its maneuverability and the massive lift given by its cotton covered wings were used by the wright brothers as they designed the world's first airplane.
